One desktop, one laptop and two netbooks. Whew. The desktop had mostly internet problems. But it was also running slow. A nice looking Dell PC I might add with a white case running Windows 7. Bunches of updates that were neglected kept this from allowing the owner to upload pictures to Facebook. Plus a good defragging and deletion of old files. Windows 7 seems to create very large temporary files. And some of those cannot be deleted easily. This one is done and running super fast.
Had a quicky laptop come in. The McAfee trial anti virus had run out and they needed something else, which I provided. The McAfee program (to me) is overkill for most people. But if you use LimeWire like this person did, it might be of some help. Still overkill for the most part. Then within hours I got 2 'Netbooks' come in. One again like the above with an expired McAfee - AND a virus. The 2nd netbook had an expired Nortons virus protection program. The one with a virus was pretty nasty. Seems they got it from a person who posted a link to a video on Facebook. Of course with the McAfee disabled, this caused tons of trouble. All fixed and new virus protection program installed. Same with the other netbook. Easy stuff. But here is something. I worked on both of these at the same time side by side. I need say no more really. Both of these are exactly the same. Made by two different companies! Hard to tell from the picture. Even the stickers in various places are exactly the same. Whoa! ![]() |

We have two HP 1600 C printers and use them occasionally. The problem with this one was the paper would stop just at the end of the exit tray. The light would blink telling of a paper jam. The problem was, there was no jam!
I dug pretty deep on the HP website. I found a post made by a few people in 2003 and 2005 who had the same problem. I knew there had to be a paper jam switch or sensor somewhere. But nothing made sense until I checked the HP site. I was determined to get this 12 year old printer going! Check the picture below. I highlighted the sensor that is to the right of the printer cartridge tray. The fix and how I did it. That sensor will get loaded up with ink. I took a paper towel and put some rubbing alcohol on it. NOT SOAKED! Dabbed the bottom of the sensor about 10 times until there was no more ink. Fired up the printer and it worked! ![]() That is all for now. Keep an eye out in the forum for other repairs I think might need mentioning. ![]() |

I added some new stuff to the Junk Pile. Mostly magazines though. If you want a certain type of periodical let me know. I can usually find it.
Webcam. Still being lazy on this. Maybe today? I just need to go down stairs and find my CD that has the program I like. Snow coming tomorrow! Cant get enough of that. Mostly cause I like it and lots of other people hate it. Win Win for me! LOL! FIOS install last weekend. Good stuff. I hope you know what FIOS is. Look in the Pictures section. I threw in a few picts and graphs of the fast speed. |

Dammat!
![]() The camera I have been using has been around for about 6 years. A Quickcam 3000. And it has been all over the house or bowling alley in the past years. Mostly in the window in the computer room, but in the basement or the bowling alley or even outside during a blizzard! This past Saturday it saw its end. I was working on a laptop and testing software to hook up a webcam at work - the bowling alley. Cool idea. And this project was going pretty good. Laptop stable using Linux operating system and software. Picture looked good. Pictures being uploaded to the website on about a 95% success rate. That's not a bad rate by the way. I work on Sunday mornings. So I figure the webcam is ready to go to work with me. I start packing everything up on Saturday night. When I take down the webcam to put it in a box - I drop it!. Shit! Now mind you, this cam has fallen out of the window bunches of times and been beaten around also. This time it broke in half. Well, the case of the cam did. I snapped it back together and brought it in to my main PC to see if it would work. Almost. It would light up. Then the light would go out. Tried a bunch of things. No go. The short story is, I have a camera being shipped right now. Got it for 20 bucks on Ebay. Refurbished one, but much newer. Lets see how this goes. When its here, the webcam show will start up again. Sheesh! |

Winter is coming. Cant wait! Screw this summer heat. I'd rather be just a bit cold. |

Actually, as of now XM is saying they will not offer much online streaming. So this may or may not work for you.
